THE IMPACT OF DISCIPLINE AND JOB EFFECTIVENESS ON ORGANISATIONAL PRYODUCTIVIT (A CASE STUDY OF COCA COLA COMPANY)

CHAPTER ONE
1.1   BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Discipline and job effectiveness have a vital role to play in the growth and development of any organisation for the improvement of management in the aspect of increasing the activities of staff development, and increase the in total level of production.
Discipline is considered as management effort to enforce organisational standard. It is therefore, a key to the success of any organisation. It is the procedure on how the organisation an achieve its ultimate objectives by insuring that actions regarding discipline and job effectiveness in the general activities of the organisation is taken. Discipline in the various department, ensuring that every department does its work at the required time an as expected. Discipline and job effectiveness is regarded as a tool that is directed more specifically towards achieving desirable goals. It is also an approach towards avoiding negative consequence that may likely occur.
From the foregoing, it is important to note that when proper discipline and job effectiveness is adopted in the general activities of an organisation, through proper management functions which include planning, organising, directing, coordinating and controlling there is no doubt about such organisation being efficient and successful. Discipline and job effectiveness therefore, should be acknowledged and appreciated so as to make the organisation achieve its desired goals and objectives.

1.2   HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Coca cola, the product that gave the world its best-known taste was developed under modest circumstances in Atlanta, Georgia in May 8th, 1886.
Dr. John Byth Pemberton first produced, what was to become the Coca cola syrup in a three-legged brass pot with a boat oar in his backyard. He carried the jug of the new product down the street to Jacob’s Pharmacy, where it was placed ion sale for 5 Cents a glass. As a soda fountain drink carbonated water was teamed with the syrup to produce a drink that was at once ‘delicious and refreshing’.
Dr. Pemberson’s partner and bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson suggested the name ‘Coca-cola’ and designed the following script that distinguished the famous trademark.


World Marketing and Advertising.
Pemberson hard an appreciation of advertising the point of sale sign ‘Drink Coco-cola 5c’ was fastened to the giving of Jacob’s pharmacy in 1886. The first newspaper advertising appeared in the Atlanta journal, not only promising refreshment but informing the public where to get it.
One problem Pemberson had was getting people to try the product. He was not sure that if they could be enticed to sample it. They could become regular customers, he formulated this idea by mean of a free ticket, good for one drink and redeemable of a soda fountains.
Since the slogan ‘delicious and refreshing’ was first introduced in i1886, coca-cola advertising has continued to reflect the refreshing and delicious things in life. Throughout the years.

Coca-cola in Nigeria

Coca-cola is a multi-national organisation through licensing agreement; Coca-cola first came to Nigeria in i1953, when Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) set up its first plant in Apapa-Lagos. It was to be the beginning of an exiting story of growth and development particularly in the present past. Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) is today Nigeria number one bottlers of soft drinks, selling more than 9, 000, 000  bottles per day currently, there are 21 plants in various parts of the Federation. Fanta is by far, number one bestseller in the orange segment, Sprite one of the most widely sold lemon lime drinks in Nigeria. Other products bottled by Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) include Fanta Ginger, Ale, Fanta Tonic, Fanta Soda and Tonic are also in the family.
Through business expansion and growth, Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) built its plant in Maiduguri in 1986, on November 16th, 1986. Soda Fanta was tested and by November 17th full production started in Maiduguri. NBC Maiduguri has 6 depots in Bama, Biu, Mubi, Yobe, Damaturu, Yola and Baga towns with fleet of trucks conveying products from the basic (plant) to all these depots.
