INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
It is generally accepted that technology and
legal dimensions play a pivotal role in the development and marketing of new
products. As such, there is need to look for possible ways advancing more in technological
building and proper adoption and using of the modern technology and the
production processes of our home industries. While this is done, there are
basic elements that seen to pose some hindrances and difficulties in the quest
to acquire this basic technological skills, and in effect, this tends to limit
the rapid growth our production industries.
On the other hand,
the legal aspect and provisions which applies to new product development
equally have some challenging issues concerning this process, ranging from the
very initiative stage of product development to the final level of
commercialization.
Key challenges that
producers face from the technical and legal requirements of new products
development and marketing that I wish to undertake this study to critically
investigate and asses the immediate causes of this key problems and to confer
lasting solutions to this limitations that technology and legal provisions
given to producing companies in the country. This intends to do by carefully
studying the role of technology and legal dimensions in the course of product
development and marketing, it is pertinent to adequately understand the
importance of these factors in the process of production in order to be able to
do proper a comprehensive
1.2 Statement of the problem
Technology according
to Abdussalami (1991) is the art of systematic application of science to solve
human problems in order to enhance the socio-economic development of mankind.
It is the application of scientific principle to production and managerial, it
is the branch of engineering activity which involves the implementation of
scientific findings.
Since Nigeria cannot
single handedly create the most needed sophisticated technology for production
and mass production of certain new product developed, it has become so uneasy
to maximize profits devoid of technology transfer, Nigeria production
industries depend solely on foreign expensive machines in order to effectively
handle the problems of mass production. This in a way has reduced the expected
profit margin of products.
Secondly, the
provisions from legal institutions regarding new product development and
marketing seems to further affect the production and marketing of some
developed product. To this end, the following areas of concern would serve as a
guide to finding solution to these technology and legal problems.
In the course of
this research, I like to ask and to know why it is difficult for indigenous
companies cannot build and advance in the required technology that has to do
with mass production. Other important questions are:
·
How can the foreign technology providers
assist Nigerian producers in technology upgrading?
·
How can our production companies handle the
issues of piracy and fake products in the market?
·
How is the law addressing the cases of fake
production?
·
How can our home government affect the legal
provisions to give room for the production of developed and unproduced products,
and
·
To proffer recommendations based on my
findings during the research work?
